Also, we are the WISD ACADEMIC UIL ELEMENTARY GRAND CHAMPIONS!!  The hard work of our campus staff and students combined with parent flexibility and collaboration has resulted in HPDS being the Elementary Academic UIL CHAMPION for the 4th year in a row!  We are SUPER PROUD of our students and their commitment to learning and always doing their "Hillcrest PDS best" !

February 1, 2017

We are off to a great start for 2017! Our campus continues to be busy with learning and activities. This month we have our Book Fair (this week!), we will have our Loved One's Luncheon (Feb. 3), we will participate in WISD academic UIL (Feb. 4 at UHS),  have a PTA meeting (Feb. 20) and PTA will host a luncheon for teachers (Feb. 24). Some grade levels will also be completing district assessments in Reading, Math and Science.

Please continue to read with your child every night. Reading is important and impacts every other subject: math, science & social studies.  Making time for something communicates that it is important....so please make reading important in you home. Some ideas for reading at home include letting your child read to you, you read to your child, you take turns with your child as you read (taking turns to a page or a paragraph), read a story with different voices or you and your child read at the same time (choral reading).

PTA: Have you joined PTA?  If not, please do! Membership costs only $5. If you want to support your child and our campus, being a member of our amazing  PTA is a great way to do that. They host Teacher Appreciation events, meetings, fund raisers and volunteer on campus. If you are interested in joining, just call our campus and we can put you in touch with our PTA President, Mr. Allen.

May 6, 2016

Wow! It is May already! With the end of the school year coming quickly, it can be easy to get consumed in the busy-ness of this month. For example, we have STAAR testing for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders, our fabulous Artist Market on May 12 and our INFLATABLE FRIDAY on May 20 (weather forcing us to cancel typical field day activities). However, let's remember that being busy can be exhausting, so it is important that we all take time to breathe and focus on what is most important: family, relationships and learning. Thanks to the hard work of our caring teachers, the extended efforts of our fabulous PTA, the super support of our Adopt-A-School partners and volunteers and parents, this has been a great school year! However, the school year is not over yet! We are still striving for our goal of 100% attendance for one day, so we appreciate parents getting their students to school on time each day.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION and CALENDAR:

A) New Parent Orientation will be held May 17 from 5:50 - 7:00.in our campus cafeteria.
B) GT Roundtable will be held on campus on Wednesday, May 25 from 5:30 - 6:30.
C) Our campus GT Showcase will be held on Thursday, May 26 from 3:30 - 5:30 in our school cafeteria.
D) Summer school will be held from June 7 to June 22 at our campus.

Check our website frequently for information about all of the fabulous things happening at Hillcrest PDS.

Thank you to our students, families, Adopt-A-School partners, volunteers and community members.  Together are
TEAM HILLCREST PDS!

Wishing you well,

Dr. Mathews-Perez

Whew!! As busy as we all get, let's not forget to take care of ourselves by getting enough sleep, prioritizing our activities, eating healthy and enjoying the outdoors when we can. What do you do to get re-energized?  Taking time to focus on our health and well-being is time well spent that will pay off in the long run, so I hope you can create opportunities to have quality time for yourself and your family.

We are still working toward our goal of 100% attendance for one day this year.....we have gotten very close, but we have not achieved it. Thank you in advance HPDS parents for striving for this goal every day by having your child/children at school on time and ready to learn!
